5 First steps to take
If you have just moved to Spain, congratulations on this important step! But now it's time to take care of some essential tasks to make your life here as comfortable and hassle-free as possible.
Here’s a list of five things you should do immediately after moving:
➕ **Foreigner Identification Number (NIE)**
This document is your key to everything. Without it, you won’t be able to open a bank account, sign a rental contract, or get a job. To obtain an NIE, you need to visit the local police office (**Extranjería**) and submit an application. Don’t forget to bring your passport and documents proving your residence in Spain.
➕ **Residence Registration (Empadronamiento)**
Registering your place of residence is a crucial step, as without it, you may encounter difficulties when applying for various documents and services. To register, visit the town hall (**ayuntamiento**) of your city or district.
➕ **Opening a Bank Account**
A bank account is necessary for receiving your salary, paying utility bills, and managing other financial transactions.
➕ **Health Insurance**
Health is important! To access medical services, you need to obtain private health insurance.
➕ **Registering Children in School or Kindergarten**
If you have children, the next step is to enroll them in an educational institution. Find the education department in your area and check which documents are required for school or kindergarten admission.
These five steps will help you quickly adapt to your new life in Spain and avoid many problems.
